AUCKLAND, New Zealand — 2 April, 2019 — Westpac NZ is today bringing its customers Apple Pay, which is transforming mobile payments with an easy, secure and private way to pay that’s fast.
Westpac’s long road to turn on Apple Pay for its main brand has been a sticking point ever since the CBA effectively collapsed an informal boycott by three of Australia’s big four that included Westpac and NAB. Unlike its peers, ANZ had from the outset activated Apple Pay, adding eftpos shortly after, arguing it was what its customers wanted.
Despite continued official radio silence on when Apple Pay will be turned on for Westpac’s 2.5 million mobile banking customers, the bank again left the door conspicuously ajar to the upgrade.
Westpac NZ has announced Apple Pay is now available to its customers, transforming mobile payments to easy, secure and private way to pay.. Apple Pay can be used wherever contactless payments are currently accepted. All Westpac NZ customers, who have an eligible debit or credit card issued by Mastercard and an eligible Apple device, can now use the service.
